New Documentary: Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

As per the results of a Blackberry-sponsored contest that ran back in April, a handful of garage-owners won the chance to host Foo Fighters at their very own homes for a one-off series of live concerts. Footage from the so-called ‘Garage Tour’ has now been crammed into a 40 minute documentary that charts the Foos’ garage-to-garage charge across North America.

The band, who recorded their latest album ‘Wasting Light’ in a studio rigged up in frontman Dave Grohl’s garage, look perfectly at home rocking out amongst the spare auto parts and DIY paraphernalia in fans’ super-sized car lock-ups. And, you know, it’s nice to see a band of the Foos Fighters’ stadium-filling proportions take such a humble, appreciative attitude to their fanbase, conversing and riding about in tractors like ordinary guys. Watch the ‘Garage Tour’ doc below.

Live Clips: Seasick Steve (and friends)

Seasick Steve

A former farm laborer and busker on the Parisian metro, august bluesman Seasick Steve looked like he couldn’t believe his luck as he regaled a packed house with songs from his latest album ‘You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks’ at the London iTunes Festival.

Seeming a little overwhelmed by the occasion, Steve summoned his Third Man Records boss Jack White and (Jack’s Dead Weather band mate) Alison Mosshart to join him on-stage in a rendition of Mississippi Fred McDowell’s blues stalwart ‘Write Me A Few Lines’. Led Zeppelin axe-man John Paul Jones also accompanied ol’ Steve and his spontaneous supergroup as they burned bright but brief through a one-song jam session. Watch it below.

A man with many celebrity pals, Steve was also guest of honor at a recent Foo Fighters stadium gig, having encountered frontman Dave Grohl years ago at Nirvana’s first ever show. With the Foos playing the part of humble support musicians, Steve performed his album track ‘Back In The Doghouse’, receiving the ultimate endorsement when Dave hailed him as “the real deal”. And there’s really no higher accolade than a compliment from The Grohl. Watch the profanity-packed clip here.

New Video: Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters got quite serious with their ‘band in a white box’ concept in the video for last single ‘Rope’, so one of their infamous comedy spoofs was long overdue.

Keeping things monosyllabic with new track ‘Walk’, the accompanying video is a definite crowd-pleaser for those who are fans of the Foos’ funnier side. In homage to Michael Douglas’ antagonistic businessman character in the 1993 movie ‘Falling Down’, Dave Grohl becomes impatient while stuck in a traffic jam, abandons his car, and storms off to get involved in various hilarious adventures.

Cue a frustrated Mr Grohl taking out his frustrations on store clerks, payphone boxes and park-dwelling bandits before ending up at a soothing jam session with the other Foos, thus proving that rock music really is the antidote to the stresses and strains of modern life.

Watch the ‘Walk’ video below.

Video: Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

Since Foo Fighters are probably more accustomed to playing in giant stadium-sized venues, conditions must have felt a little cramped at their recent show in a Yonkers garage belonging to some guy called ‘Pizza Man’. This all came about as a result of a previously reported contest presented by Blackberry and the Foos, with entrants competing to host the band at one of a series of intimate garage-based gigs.

Watch their full performance here, which shows Dave Grohl and co looking quite at home, if a bit squashed, as they rattle through a deafening set of greatest hits like ‘Best Of You’ and ‘Times Like These’ in front of a capacity crowd of 50 fans.

Album Stream: Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

For fans who weren’t lucky enough to catch Foo Fighters previewing their new LP ‘Wasting Light’ at one of a recent string of short-notice live shows, fear not. Prior to its scheduled release on 4/12 via RCA Records, the album is now available to stream online in all its glorious entirety. And considering that it was made in Dave Grohl’s garage, the record really is a fine vehicle for the band’s long-awaited return.

Opening in explosive style with the high-powered punk of ‘Bridge Burning’, the tone of the album ranges from the sweeping rock of lovesong ‘Dear Rosemary’ to the stadium pop of ‘Back And Forth’, stopping off with some distorted metal riffs on ‘White Limo’  before it drives home with the climactic ‘I Should Have Known’ and anthemic closing track ‘Walk’.

Listen to the album here.
