Seminal grunge group Soundgarden are inviting their fans to share in the joy of their recent reformation by offering a limited chance to join the band’s official fan club for free. And this all came about as a result of one giant Twitter-based misunderstanding…
When frontman Chris Cornell posted a tweet last year about the relaunch of the long-defunct Soundgarden fan site, this was mistaken by overexcited followers as a statement about the band getting back together, which, in fact, they had had no plans to do. But the overwhelmingly enthusiastic reaction to the idea prompted the reluctant rockers to reconsider, and they are now busy recording a new album as per fans’ wishes. Thereby demonstrating once again the awesome, all-encompassing power of Twitter.
“Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon”, read a recent statement from the band on their website.
So join the fan club, which grants members access to pre-sale ticket opps and various other band exclusives, and stay tuned for some new material. It’s certainly been a long time coming.
